Sunshine Coast TAFE offers professional counselling services to support students in achieving successful learning outcomes. Counselling is provided by experienced, professionally-qualified counsellors who can assist students with their psychological, emotional and vocational needs. This service is free, confidential and non-judgmental. Some specific areas in which the counsellors may be able to assist students include:

Personal Counselling

• Relationship and interpersonal difficulties.
• Mental health issues, e.g. anxiety and depression.
• Self-esteem or assertiveness difficulties.
• Post-traumatic stress.
• Conflict resolution and mediation.

Career and Program Counselling

• Exploring career options.
• Career path development.
• QTAC procedures.
• Assistance with program selection.
• Development of Senior Education and Training (SET) plans (required for enrolment by students under 17 years).

Educational Counselling

• Study skills and exam anxiety, particularly if returned to study after an absence.
• Time and task management.
• Stress management.
• Study load decisions.
• Resume writing and job search skills.

The counsellors also provide information and referral to relevant agencies/workers for financial, health and disability issues. They maintain a student accommodation register, which is available on request. Counselling services are available at most Sunshine Coast TAFE campuses.
